The Tunisian Ministry of Equipment, Housing and Infrastructure (MEHI) launched the Program for the Regeneration of Old Centres in Tunisia (PRCA), which aims to improve the living conditions of residents, economic activity, and strengthening the cultural and tourist attractiveness of old centres. In this context, MedCités , in coordination with the PRCA Project Monitoring Unit, l’AFD and the BEI, has set up a series of online activities for the capacity building of municipalities meeting the eligibility criteria of the Call for expressions of interest launched by the MEHI.
On Monday 25 and Wednesday 27 January 2021, RehabiMed set up the online training activity on the urban regeneration of old centres in Tunisia, with two modules: Urban regeneration and revitalization of the historic city and Implementation of urban regeneration. These are two webinars presenting essential concepts, a strategic vision, priority objectives and challenges to be considered in the establishment of a process for the integral urban regeneration of old centres. A theoretical and practical vision taking into account the function of centrality in the urban fabric, the socio-economic revitalization and the preservation of the built heritage, the governance framework and the participation of actors and citizens, presented by illustrated conceptual reflections with real examples of case studies in the Mediterranean context.
