RehabiMed participates in the International Symposium on Depopulated Areas in Salerno, Italy

On June 17 and 18, 2022, the “Small Towns Symposium 2022” took place in Salerno. An international debate on the regeneration and sustainable development of small towns in depopulated areas. Within the framework of the Symposium, the International Charter for the recovery of depopulated areas was signed at the “Giuliani” Castle in Roccadaspide, with the participation of the authorities of the Campania region and several mayors of the area.

Xavier Casanovas, president of RehabiMed, presented a paper on the effects of the depopulation of the territory on the preservation of heritage. In this sense, he provided an overview of the problem of depopulation in the entire Mediterranean area where, with different characteristics and effects, manifests itself in very important. A problem that is being corrected in the countries of southern Europe with political and economic measures, but that in the countries of North Africa and the Middle East is evolving rapidly, without measures that try to alleviate the exodus to the big cities.
