The RehabiMed project and its results were presented in Turkey between 10 and 13 January 2008.
A conference was held at the Technical University of Yildiz on 10 January, organized by the university and the Turkish Chamber of Architects. Over 100 people attended the talks by RehabiMed’s Project Manager, Xavier Casanovas, and the architects Irem Yaylal, Aynur Ciftçi and Banu Celebioglu. A presentation was made by Nur Akin, President of ICOMOS Turkey and RehabiMed coordinator, and Çan Binan, secretary of ICOMOS and lecturer in the Department of Heritage Conservation at the same university. The interventions were followed by a lively debate and a cocktail reception.
In the framework of the presentation, on 11 January a visit was organized to the Rehabilitation Office in the district of Fener-Balat, where the architects in charge, Luís Mezzano and Burçin Altinsay, presented the experience being carried out in this district of Istanbul and conducted a visit to work under way and finished projects. To complete the event, on 13 January there was a trip to the town of Tarakli, where the Mayor, Tacettin Özkaraman, lecturer and architect Ismet Agaryimaz and local heads of rehabilitation gave a detailed presentation of their project for the recovery of the town’s interesting traditional architecture. Participants also visited work under way and completed projects, and the restoration workshop created to complement work. An interview with the mayor and local RehabiMed architects by the Hilal TV national television channel completed the activities.
