Behind his name and person we find the legacy of the recovery of the architectural heritage of colonial Havana and the defense of civil society, as a fundamental pillar for the revitalization of the historic center of Havana.

Undoubtedly, an action to safeguard a world heritage site, in one of the most beautiful cities in the world. But this city is punished by those who believe they own everything, with oblivion. He had an exceptional trajectory towards Heritage and Cuba.

RehabiMed had the privilege and pleasure of working with him and his team: the restoration of the Casal Català (1993-1995) and the study and rehabilitation of the Catalan modernist legacy in Havana (1995-1999). We also shared, in international forums, different visions and perspectives on actions towards world heritage. The last one, in Madrid in November 2018, on the occasion of the International Meeting on Heritage and Development.

Eusebio Leal turned the periphery into a center, taking on the task of restoring the heritage and improving the lives of all those who lived there. He unwittingly adopted José Agustín Goytisolo’s last verse, which says “we are millions and the planet is not yours.”
