CUBA projects (1994-2015)
Over the last two decades, together with various institutions and universities in Cuba (Oficina de Restauración in Trinidad, CENCREM, Oficina del Historiador in Havana, CUJAE, Casal Catalán…), Spain (Generalitat de Catalunya, Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, Barcelona City Council, Arquitectos sin Fronteras, Catalan Association of Technical Architects, AECID…) and further afield (ICOMOS, UNESCO…), a series of actions have been carried out in the fields of research, training, sensitization, protection, revalorization and rehabilitation of Cuban built heritage.
Trinidad and the Valley de los Ingenios have been the site of diagnostic studies of dwellings in the historic centre with the aim of improving the living conditions of their inhabitants and preservation of heritage by means of the rehabilitation of over 300 homes and a school.
In Havana, the Casal Catalán was rehabilitated and specialization courses were held with international experts centring on pathologies and ways of rehabilitating the Art Nouveau buildings. Collaborations have also taken place with university students in the form of projects to rehabilitate Art Nouveau buildings, jointly with the Oficina del Historiador.
Various activities have also been carried out for the investigation and dissemination of Cuban built heritage, including the exhibition CUBA: World Heritage, which travelled to different venues in Europe and Latin America. Now, a series of videos featuring professionals in Cuba’s heritage reflects on the present day and the changing historic urban landscape.
